- Severe toothache
- A large object caught between the teeth
- Damage to the gums
- Injury to the jaw
- Swelling in the face and jaw
If you have suffered other injuries such as broken bones or are bleeding profusely, go straight to your local emergency room. After you are stable, be sure to call us so we can help you with your teeth.
What to Do in a Dental Emergency
Here are a few things you can do after you have called us:
- Try to find the lost/broken tooth or dental work
- In the case of a tooth, only pick it up by the crown, never the root
- Place it back into your mouth if possible, or in a container of milk or saltwater
- Rinse your mouth gently with warm water
- Use a cold compress (on for 15 minutes, off for 15 minutes) to lessen pain and swelling
- Ideally, have someone else drive you to the office
All of these tips will help manage your pain and make it much more likely that we can save your smile. Don’t worry about trying to remember all of them, our team will walk you through what to do when you call us.
Just to save yourself a few seconds, you should go ahead and put our number in your phone right now. That way you’ll be able to get the attention you need even faster. When you’re in your most vulnerable moment, don’t worry, we’ll be able to help you.
